2003 Championship Statement I wanted to start out by saying that this is probably the most gratifying of my now 10 championships. This ranks as one of , if not the most, decisive victories in league history. In the past I was basically the favorite going into the season but this year all the chips were against me. Nobody really gave me a shot at beating the invincible Dan. Things looked a little bleak in the middle of last winter when Danny made some great moves, preying on his co-workers, but by the start of the season I felt I had the best team, even though nobody else did. My fire really began to boil when Dan became overconfident. He made some statements during his post draft summary that really pissed me off. For example, when I picked the 3 High School kids (who everyone laughed at even though 2 of the 3 eventually ended up being two of the top players in the country) he commented in his notes that this was a strategy of mine to retool for the future because I know that I cannot beat him…..Dan even commented that it was foolish strategy because he was so invincible and he was stacked now and in for the future. Another thing that pissed me off was when he criticized me picking my son saying it was foolish to carry 39 players. Well Dan, it looks like I only needed 39 players to kick your ass…… The basic reason I won this year so convincingly was because Dan tripped over his own ego and he basically thought he was invincible. He began to toy, by going after prospects and thinking he could get by with no bench yet again. I did the same thing a few years ago during my championship run which aloud the door for Dan to come in. Only time will tell if he can regain his championship way. It took me 5 years to recover. I have a few comments for the league. I think it is obvious to everyone that the competitive balance rules are starting to make an impact. The talent is definitely getting dispersed. Over the next 2-3 years we are definitely going to have a champion other than Dan and myself and the trends already are showing that we are not far away from most teams having a legitimate shot to win. The key to winning is to be active and care, if you study a little and become active in the trade market you will compete. Those who don't will never compete in my opinion. I would like to congratulate Bill this year. The changes he made from last year to this were amazing, I think he has a plan and it showed. I would also like to thank Chris Davis for joining the league. I think he is a very good owner, as many of you know it is very difficult as a new owner to deal with me and Dan always pounding you for your best players, when you may not really know what you have yet. With experience Chris is going to be there at the top. One final note….TO DAN… I am most proud that you will probably never attain you true goal …to have more championships than me….so you should always remember that I am the owner thus far that has been the most successful…NOT YOU….My worst finish was third once…you have finished 4th 3 times 5th once and 6th 2 times….so never compare yourself to me again on the same caliber on being an owner in this league….PEACE OUT |
