Saturday, July 14, 2007 Houston Astros Brad Lidge to Closer in place of Dan Wheeler Dan Wheeler to 1st in line in place of Chad Qualls Chad Qualls to 2nd in line in place of Brad Lidge Lidge returned from the DL yesterday with a scoreless, 2 strike out inning in a 6-0 loss and may return to the closers' role with his next outing. The 30-year-old right hander is still looking for his first save of the year losing the job the first week of the season and then getting injured after getting it back in June. Lidge has a 1.23 WHIP in 35+ IP with 46 K on the season. Monday, July 9, 2007 Philadelphia Phillies Antonio Alfonseca still Closer Tom Gordon DL to 1st in line in place of Ryan Madson Brett Myers DL to 2nd in line in place of Geoff Geary AAA Madson pitched 3 scoreless innings, (3 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 3 K), in a 8-4 final yesterday for his first save of the season. The 26-year-old Madson has a 1.31 WHIP in 46+ IP with 39 K and 5 holds on the year. Gordon is currently on a minor league rehab assignment, (DL- shoulder), and could return shortly after the all-star break barring any setbacks. Myers, (DL- shoulder), is close to a rehab assignment and could return shortly after Gordon, also assuming no setbacks. Alfonseca has blown his past 2 save opportunities and will hand the closers' role over to Gordon or Myers depending on who is ready first. The 35-year-old veteran Alfonseca has a 1.66 WHIP on the season in 34+ IP with a just 12 K and is 6 for 9 in save chances. Detroit Tigers Todd Jones still Closer Zach Miner to 1st in line in place of Chad Durbin Jose Capellan to 2nd in line in place of Fernando Rodney DL Miner struck out the final batter of the 8th to set Jones up yesterday for his 4th hold of the season. The 25-year-old Miner has 3 holds in his last 4 games filling the setup void created by injuries in the Tigers' bullpen. Miner has a 1.47 WHIP and 1.65 ERA in 16+ IP on the season with 12 K. Capellan recorded his first hold for the Tigers yesterday and has a 0.69 WHIP in 4+ IP with 7 K since coming to Detroit. The hard throwing 26-year-old had some future closer value last year the Brewers but failed to make the team out of Spring Training and spent the first 2 months of the season in AAA. Rodney is currently on the DL with a forearm and shoulder injuries with a possible late July return barring setbacks.
